I took a liking to Olde English Sussex South Down Baby Doll Sheep a few years go. I went on a quest to find a small farm that raises them for their wool. It took a little while but I found Dawn and her sweet little hobby farm online in 2022. Mellow Meadow Hobby Farm is tucked a little part of the world called Boston Heights, Ohio. I fell in love with her kindness and the photos of her adorable small herd of Sheep. The fiber she gets when the sheep are sheared is perfect for The kind of needle felting I do. Once I started felting with these fibers I felt the possibilities were endless on what I could create using just needles and wool. It's really been a wonderful friendship we have created over the years. I go through about 1-2lbs of wool every year to make my little wool dogs. I hope to visit her little farm this summer with my Aussie Roka and let her meet the sheep first hand. There is an enormous about of love and dedication to her sheep. I feel that love is woven into each dog I sculpt. I love that I'm not putting a trinket made of plastic and petroleum out into the world. But rather a homegrown handmade Sheep's wool keepsake of your beloved dog. There couldn't be a better fiber for my art than these type of wool. She has a wonderful facebook page for her farm and the photos of her herd of sheep are just the sweetest.
